Nancy is a passionate community health volunteer and researcher from Mathare with over a decade of experience supporting vulnerable households. Since 2010, she has provided home-based care, led household visits, and conducted community awareness on health, working closely with nearly 100 families each month.
As a facilitator with a U.S. NIH-sponsored research project with the Sauti Mashinani Research Lab and Anga Center, Nancy supports mental health interventions for women experiencing intimate partner violence. The research she supports focuses on women’s resilience amid climate stress, water scarcity, and gender-based violence in informal settlements. Her work helps strengthen locally informed, data-driven responses.
In 2015, she became a youth leader in the Kazi Mtaani program, where she developed her leadership and communication skills, coordinating youth activities and representing them in high-level meetings. Nancy’s training includes HIV counseling, home-based care, disaster response, and research ethics, along with certifications in human subjects protection, HIPAA, and data collection. She is fluent in English and Swahili.
She is also a small business owner and enjoys mentoring youth in her community. Nancy is committed to creating healthier, safer environments for women, youth, and families across Mathare and beyond.
