The P20 research project will investigate the relationships between climate change-related events and mental health, well-being, and interpersonal violence in climate-vulnerable communities across East Africa. This study will explore and compare the prevalence and frequency of climate-related events in these communities and use participants’ lived experiences to develop localized, impact-based thresholds and early warning systems. It will also examine potential pathways linking climate events to mental health outcomes and experiences of violence. Ultimately, the project aims to design and test interventions that reduce the negative impacts of climate change by improving mental health, enhancing well-being, and preventing interpersonal violence in high-risk settings.
